Director of Graduate Programs

The responsibilities of the Director of Graduate Programs for the College of Sciences include:

  • Work with Graduate Coordinators on recruitment, admission of graduate students, and recruitment scholarships; Welcome new graduate students at orientation events
  • Oversee the college’s Graduate Assistantship (GA) state-funded budget and Dean’s allocations for departments, assist faculty with Research Assistant (RA) extramurally funded (grants, start up, IDCR) budgeting, monitor GA and RA appointments/offer letters in the system
  • Retention, Progression, and Completion (RPC) tracking in all graduate programs, provide updated reports and metrics to departments and deans
  • Advising graduate students with programmatic issues; completing required forms, council students through conflicts, explaining all GA and RA funding offer letter questions, tuition and billing questions, scholarship and fellowship questions, RPC issues, and graduation
  • Manage and keep records of graduate forms; maintain student’s records and archives
  • Manage probations, separations, remediation timelines and deadlines, and appeals with those processes in accordance with dept. policies and precedent
  • College’s Curriculum Committee (CCC) Coordinator: plan CCC meetings each semester with members and faculty attendees, submit CCC agendas, and record votes and minutes. Assist dept. Graduate Coordinators and Chairs with their graduate curriculum proposals in Curriculog and Graduate Catalog changes
  • Serve as liaison between the College of Sciences and the Graduate College, Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS), Student Financial Services, Student Enrollment Services, and other departments on campus on all matters pertaining to graduate students
  • Report to the college’s Director of Communications and Director of Development on significant graduate student’s research, scholarly accomplishments, teaching, and awards, for public relations and development with community outreach, alumni, and philanthropy relations.
