The Strategic Leadership Training Series consists of online professional development workshops for leaders at UNLV to expand their awareness of best practices across higher education. These informative and interactive workshops cover a wide range of topical issues, including student success, diversity and inclusion, and resource allocation.
The workshop topics and schedule for Fall 2023 are below.
Session 1: Strengthen Your Talent Pipeline from Within
Monday, September 25, 9:00-10:30 a.m.
Investing in internal staff career development and advancement can bolster short- and long-term recruitment and retention efforts. In this session, you will:
Increase understanding and support for the financial and retention benefits reaped by developing and advancing internal staff.
Learn how to build a stronger internal pipeline and source the best talent already on campus.
Prioritize internal mobility tactics to invest in based on institution-specific pain points, talent needs, and organizational goals.
Session 2: The Modern Student Experience: Addressing Today's Student Expectations
Monday, October 9, 9:00-10:30 a.m.
When it comes to designing a modern student experience, the forces that shape what students expect are at work long before they arrive on campus. Across the student lifecycle and both inside and outside the classroom, the modern student experience is personalized and tech-enabled. From virtual advising to tracking course engagement, students are expecting increased levels of flexibility and innovation in how universities serve and support students. This workshop will lead participants through an examination of six areas of the student experience and a reimagination of what the student experience can look like in the future.
Pressure continues to mount for higher education to do more to enhance students’ post-graduation outcomes. This session will focus on three critical career development investments institutional leaders need to make to reclaim the ROI narrative in higher education. Specifically, attendees will learn how to:
Articulate personal and professional payoff to prospects.
Prepare students to thrive throughout college and in their careers.
Level the playing field for underserved students by helping them build social capital.
