Nevada SSN OpEd Writing Workshop with Nevada Independent Editor Feb. 23

The Nevada chapter of the Scholars Strategy Network is excited to host an in-person OpEd writing workshop for all interested researchers in the Las Vegas area.

  • 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Feb. 23, 2024, Location: CBC B225B

Participants will have a chance to hear directly from Hali Saylor, assistant editor of the Nevada Independent on what they look for in commentary submissions, with time for audience Q&A.

This hands-on workshop will equip scholars with the tools to write compelling, research-based OpEds and get started on putting their first draft together. Participants will learn the ins and outs of crafting a strong OpEd—from finding a timely hook, to composing a clear key message, to structuring the piece for maximum impact—and will then put what they learned into practice by starting to write a draft OpEd, with time to receive feedback. Participants are asked to come prepared with an idea for an OpEd to make the most of the workshop. This workshop is great for all scholars, whether they have written OpEds before or are just starting to think about writing their first. Lunch will be provided
