Are you working on a proposal, thesis, dissertation, professional paper, or publication? Do you need structured time to write? Would you like to improve your time management, writing strategies, and achieve your goals more effectively with the support of an accountability group?
Grad-level writing is challenging, but you're not alone.The Grad Academy has partnered with the UNLV Writing Center and UNLV Libraries to offer supportive programming to help you navigate your graduate writing journey. Our Grad Rebel Writing Boot Camps and Grad Rebel Writing Group are designed to help you develop the skills and confidence needed to become a more efficient and successful writer. Plus, you'll make meaningful progress on your writing projects along the way.

Grad Rebel Writing Boot Camp: Sprint Saturdays
A new format for the Grad Rebel Writing Boot Camp! Sprint Saturdays are dedicated writing days designed to help you set goals, stay accountable, and make meaningful progress on your writing project. Each session begins with goal setting and a brief overview of writing support resources on campus, followed by focused writing time alongside other graduate student writers. Designed with graduate students’ busy schedules in mind, Sprint Saturdays provide a structured, distraction-free environment to step away from everyday distractions, get words on the page, and make meaningful progress on your writing. Breakfast and lunch are provided.

Grad Rebel Writing Group
Looking for ongoing writing training, guidance, and built-in accountability? The Grad Rebel Writing Group offers a structured series designed to help you develop your writing skills and make consistent progress on major projects such as a thesis, dissertation, or professional paper. In this in-person program, you'll join a cohort of fellow graduate students for five focused sessions held at the Graduate College. Each session includes tailored workshops, collaborative support, and dedicated time to write. With a similar overall time commitment as the weekend boot camp, this extended format allows for continuous progress and skill development.
Scheduled Programs
- Fridays, September 25 to October 23 (5 meetings total), 2026
- Sessions held from 12:00-3:00 p.m. each Friday; lunches provided
Grad Rebel Writing Boot Camp: On-Demand Edition
Designed for online students and those with demanding or unpredictable schedules, the fully virtual and asynchronous Grad Rebel Writing Boot Camp: On-Demand Edition blends expert-led instruction with self-paced learning and structured writing time. Participants complete high-quality, on-demand writing courses through Nature Masterclasses. You can choose the course(s) that best align with your current goals, with topics including research writing, publishing, grant writing, and research integrity. In addition to completing the course(s), you’ll log focused writing hours to support real progress on your project.
The total time commitment is approximately 15–20 hours, and students may apply on a rolling basis, completing the program at their own pace.
Any enrolled masters or doctoral student who is in good academic standing in a graduate degree program and who is actively working on a thesis/dissertation proposal, thesis, dissertation, professional paper, capstone, or publication is eligible to participate in Grad Rebel Writing Programs.

Application deadlines for the Grad Rebel Writing Group will be listed in Grad Rebel Gateway. Applications for the Grad Rebel Writing Boot Camp: On-Demand Edition are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the academic year.
Grad Rebel Writing programs provide graduate students with the tools, strategies, and support needed to become more efficient, confident, and successful writers while making meaningful progress on major writing projects. Participants gain exposure to writing support resources on campus and opportunities to strengthen their writing skills. Meals are provided during in-person sessions.
Participants who successfully complete all program requirements for the Grad Rebel Writing Group or Grad Rebel Writing Boot Camp: On-Demand Edition will receive a certificate of completion, a Grad Academy t-shirt, and earn 10 points toward the Graduate College Medallion. Students who attend two Sprint Saturdays are also eligible to receive a Grad Academy t-shirt and earn 10 Medallion points.
To participate in the Grad Rebel Writing Group or On-Demand Boot Camp, students must first apply and be admitted. Students should RSVP in advance to join a Sprint Saturday. Participants must be actively working on a major writing project, such as a thesis or dissertation proposal, thesis, dissertation, professional paper, capstone project, or publication.
To receive all program benefits—including the certificate, t-shirt, and medallion points—students are expected to:
- Attend the full duration of the program
- Engage actively in all workshops and writing sessions
- Complete all assigned components
- Submit program feedback surveys
Please note: Grad Rebel writing programs do not carry academic credit and do not appear on student transcripts.
