More Information

When can I take the FE exam?

FE exams are held at NCEES approved testing facilities all year long and are computer-based.  Days and times may vary depending on the testing facility. Students need to make sure they schedule early as testing days have a limited number of seats.

For civil engineering seniors ready to take the FE Exam, you will still need to register for CEE 499 during the semester you plan on taking the exam. Please keep in mind that if you plan on graduating during the Spring semester, you will need to take the FE no later than April to allow enough time to have your test graded and the results posted prior to graduation. Otherwise, this may delay your graduation. If you are planning on graduating during the Fall semester, you will need to take the exam no later than November as not to delay your graduation. If you do not take the exam prior to the completion of your last semester (Dec or May), your graduation will be delayed by one semester and you will be required to reapply and pay the graduation fee a second time.

Once you have passed the FE exam, you may download the application for the state in which you wish to have your license in.

How much does the FE Exam Cost?

An exam fee of $175 is payable directly to NCEES during the registration process. Once you have passed the exam and apply to be a certified Engineering Intern for the State of Nevada, there is a $50 application fee.

How do I prepare for the FE exam?

For civil engineering students, it is required to sign up for CEE 499 during the semester they are planning on taking the test. Students should check with their professors on requirements for the course and whether or not proof of taking the exam is required prior to getting a passing grade for the review course.

You may access and review the current FE Supplied Reference Manual, similar to what you will be using during the examination on the NCEES website.

What do I do after passing the exam?

Go to the Nevada State Board of Engineering website and apply for Engineer Intern certification. Instructions on how to apply can be found on their website.
