Career Coaching

We offer unlimited career coaching to UNLV students and alumni on a variety of topics along the job search continuum, from exploring career options to landing a full-time position.

Who Can Use Our Career Coaching Services?

Our career coaching services are available to all current UNLV undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. UNLV alumni also have lifelong access to our services and are encouraged to meet with us to receive support.

In-Person Career Coaching

Meet one-on-one with a career coach to explore a variety of topics, from exploring career options to guidance for helping you land a full-time job.&

Topics Covered

  • Career and Life Design Planning: We’ll help you clarify your career/life direction, discover opportunities, and create an action plan that connects your education to your career goals.These appointments can help you:
    • Explore majors, minors, and academic pathways that align with your interests. To make the most of your appointment, take the FOCUS 2 assessment ahead of time. Our career and life design specialist to review your results and connect them to your goals.
    • Learn about graduate or professional school options.
    • Identify career possibilities and alternative paths.
    • Connect your skills, experiences, and interests to career opportunities.
    • Build a step-by-step plan to move toward your goals.
  • Application Materials and LinkedIn/Handshake Profile Development: You will work one-on-one with a career specialist to ensure your materials present your skills and experiences clearly and competitively. These appointments can help you:
    • Refine your resume, cover letter, or CV for specific opportunities.
    • Improve your LinkedIn or Handshake profile to attract employers.
    • Learn strategies to highlight accomplishments and transferable skills.
    • Tailor materials for applicant tracking systems (ATS).
    • Strengthen personal statements or essays for graduate or professional school.
  • Interview Practice and Preparation: in these appointments, we will help you feel confident, prepared, and equipped to make a strong impression. These appointments can also help you:
    • Practice responding to common and industry-specific interview questions. To best personalize your mock interview, email the job description to careerlifedesign@unlv.edu so we can tailor questions that can better prepare you for the real interview.
    • Receive feedback on your communication style and body language.
    • Learn strategies to highlight your skills and experiences effectively.
    • Complete a full mock interview to prepare for phone, virtual, and in-person interviews.
    • Gain tips for handling challenging or unexpected questions.
  • Peer Resume Review: Work with a trained peer career coach to get helpful, student-to-student feedback on your resume. These short sessions are a great way to:
    • Make sure your format is clear and professional.
    • Strengthen how you describe experiences and skills.
    • Get quick tips to tailor your resume to specific opportunities.
    • Improve your resume and feel more confident before meeting with employers or a career specialist.
  • Quick Career Questions: Have a short question or need a quick check-in? This appointment is perfect for focused conversations on specific career topics or for meeting requirements like extra credit. You can:
