About the Care Advocate Training Institute
This training and development program is designed to prepare students for the role of the confidential campus advocate: hold space for clients, ensure personal safety, identify needs and possible resources, create plans together, and educate peers.
The Care Advocate Training Institute is an immersive training and professional development program that combines online learning with in-field experience. Each cohort participates in a wide range of supervised professional activities within a major campus-based advocacy center. This is a paid opportunity for students interested in developing a career in human services, public health, social work, and public administration. Applications are now open!
Who are the Care Advocates?
The Care Advocates are a departmentally sponsored, volunteer student organization that adhere to a trauma-informed, healing-centered approach to power-based violence and sexual violence prevention. Care Advocates prioritize the survivor’s right to self determination and autonomy.
The Care Advocates are students trained to offer confidential peer support to:
- Hold space for you
- Ensure personal safety
- Examine needs & possible resources
- Make a plan moving forward
The Care Advocates also support our campus education efforts to:
- Facilitate Care presentations
- Participate in campus-wide outreach events
- Promote The Care Center’s services
Care Advocate Application Process
Requirements:
- Fill out application
- Pass interview process
- Complete online training
- Pass final exam
- 1-year commitment
- Fall, Spring, Summer
About the Peer Education Training Institute
This training and development program is designed to prepare students for the role of providing increased visibility to the impacts of power-based violence and increased access to trauma-informed and healing-centered services through awareness events and educational presentations across NSHE affiliations.
The Peer Education Training Institute is an immersive training and professional development program for peer educators that combines online learning with in-field experience. Each cohort participates in a wide range of supervised education and outreach activities directed by a major campus-based advocacy center. This is a volunteer opportunity for students interested in developing a career in human services, public health, social work, and public administration. Apply before November 28th, 2023!
Peer Educator Eligibility
- Current UNLV affiliated student
- Must commit to 1 semester in the Peer Education program
- Must be an active UNLV student for that year
