Freshman Advising (First Year Students)

All incoming freshman are required to attend New Student Orientation (NSO) before you can register for classes. You will have your first meeting with your academic advisor when you attend NSO.

At NSO, You Will

  • Get to know your graduation requirements.
  • Receive academic advising and an introduction to important college policies.
  • Register for classes.
  • Explore your new community, the UNLV campus & resources.

Before you Attend NSO

  • Prepare yourself for NSO and your first semester by reviewing the following:
    • Read the following sections in your undergraduate catalog: "Academic Information", "Academic Policies", "General Education"
    • Items to bring to NSO:
      • Your NSHE student ID number and password - this was sent to your Rebelmail account.
      • A copy of your SAT/ACT test scores (for Math and English placement).
