Organization Categories

Student organizations at UNLV can self-select into an overarching category when they register each semester. After completing registration, the organization ca be searched by these categories and self-assigned keywords. The designated categories are as follows:


Groups that further the content knowledge and experience in an academic field or professional area. Some of these organizations may have Greek Letters in their name, but are not associated with the Greek Life governing structures.

Civic Engagement & Advocacy

Groups that further the progress of an idea or initiative to affect the community at large (service, political, social justice, advocacy).

Diversity & Multicultural

Groups that celebrate, educate, and communicate the nature of specific shared identities and experiences such as race, class, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, veteran status, and ethnicity.


Groups who promote or educate associated members and/or the community about environment-related causes.


Organizations that are founded around film, publications, and/or media or whose mission/purpose further the content knowledge or experience for these areas.

Fitness & Wellness

Groups who promote or educate associated members and/or the community about fitness & wellness.

Fraternities & Sororities

Groups that are directly associated with the Greek Life procedures and policies on campus and have an existing relationship with one of the four Greek governing councils.


Groups that encourage or promote gaming culture.

Graduate/Professional Student Organization

Organizations created and maintained by graduate or professional students. These organizations must contact GPSA after completing the online registration.


Groups that celebrate, educate, and communicate the nature and individualities of a specific culture or nationality outside of the United States.


Groups who promote or educate around political views and/or parties.


Groups that promote service or who provide service to the community.

Special Interest

Groups that encourage social interaction around a shared interest or theme.

Spiritual & Faith-Based

Groups that promote the personal growth of associated members in relation to spirituality and/or religion.

Sport Clubs

Organizations founded around a sport that can be categorized as recreational, instructional, or competitive as defined in the club sports manual. These organizations must contact Club Sports after completing the online registration.


Student organizations who are directly affiliated with the mission of a department or functional area at UNLV. These groups also have dedicated staffing and student members who are documented volunteers or documented employees. These groups are covered by UNLV's insurance program and function to further the UNLV mission by providing specific programs and services. Organizations in this category must be pre-approved by Student Involvement & Activities.
