Statement of Purpose
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) web presence is a primary institutional communication channel and a key source of official information for internal and external audiences.
This policy establishes institutional governance, standards, and requirements for all Official University Websites. It ensures university websites are accurate, current, accessible, secure, compliant with applicable federal, state, NSHE, and university policies, aligned with brand standards, and supportive of accreditation requirements.
This policy also defines authority, responsibilities, and enforcement for the creation, management, maintenance, and review of Official University Websites across the university.
Entities Affected by this Policy
This policy and any associated procedures apply to anyone who establishes any website that represents UNLV in an official capacity. This applies regardless of hosting platform, content management system, vendor, or funding source.
This includes sites that present academic, administrative, operational, or institutional information to internal or external audiences. Official status is based on representation of the university, not on which unit builds, hosts, or manages the site.
This policy applies to any university unit, department, office, program, or individual who creates, manages, or maintains an Official University Website on behalf of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Who Should Read this Policy

UNLV’s Web & Digital Strategy is the institutional authority for governance, standards, and approval of all Official University Websites. Any exception requires prior written approval from the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost. Exceptions must be documented, time limited, and subject to revocation.
All units must follow procedures and guidelines maintained and updated by Web & Digital Strategy before creating, modifying, or launching any Official University Website, regardless of who performs the work.
Web & Digital Strategy, in coordination with the Web Governance Council, reserves the right to edit, remove, or permanently delete a university webpage or website –or any content on a university webpage or website –for noncompliance with this policy or any other applicable University or NSHE policy, or for violation of federal, state, or local law.
