Incoming Freshman Students
All incoming fall semester first-year students are required to attend New Student Orientation. It is necessary that new students arrive on time and must remain in attendance for the entire full-day orientation session. For your planning purposes, orientation begins at 8:00 a.m. and lasts until approximately 4:00 p.m. Do not plan to leave New Student Orientation early for work commitments, travel arrangements, or appointments that conflict with your orientation session.
If an extenuating circumstance prevents you from attending New Student Orientation, you can request an orientation exemption. An orientation exemption can be requested during online orientation registration, which is located in the To Do List of your MyUNLV Student Center. Orientation staff will review these requests on a rolling basis and notify you if your request has been approved or denied. Please note that all new degree-seeking students will be charged a one-time orientation fee whether or not the student attended orientation.
Incoming Transfer, Military/Veteran, & International Students
You are not required to attend orientation, however it is strongly encouraged. This program has been carefully planned with your transition to UNLV in mind and is designed to set you up for a successful first semester. Because academic advising is not provided at New Student Orientation, you must schedule an academic advising appointment with your advising center as soon as possible. It is required for you to meet with your academic advisor before you can register for courses. A full list of advising centers can be found at unlv.edu/advising/centers. Please note that all new degree-seeking students will be charged a one-time orientation fee whether or not the student attended orientation.
