Step 1: Prepare Your Application Materials
- Confirm Minimum Qualifications
- Ensure your professional background meets the required education and/or years of experience before applying.
- Include the type and discipline, i.e. bachelor of science in business administration, accounting.
- Gather Required Documents
- CV/Resume: Highlight relevant education, experience, and skills by using clear formatting and incorporating keywords from the job posting.
- Cover Letter (if required or recommended): Address the cover letter to the search committee chair or the search committee. Demonstrate how your skills and experience align with the role and express why you’re interested in the position.
- References/Recommendations: Provide at least three professional references with contact information.
- Additional Documents: Include any materials specifically requested in the job posting.
- Do not include any personal identification information in your application materials, such as date of birth, social security number, or other information that is not requested.
- Classified Positions Only - Veterans (if applicable)
- If disclosing veteran status, upload a copy of your DD-214 or other required documentation in the designated section of the application.

Step 2: Determine Your Applicant Type
- Log into Workday using your ACE ID account
- Type “Browse Jobs” in the search box to navigate job listings.
- Use filters (job title, department, location) to find open positions of interest.
- Search for job openings:
- Visit the UNLV Workday Career site
- Job listings may be refined by selecting a specific job category, including academic, administrative, or classified roles. Alternatively, the search function enables targeted inquiries using relevant keywords, job titles, or geographic locations.
- Visit the UNLV Workday Career site
- Create a Workday Candidate Home Account or sign in:
- First-time applicants: Create an account and securely save your username and password.
- Returning applicants: Log in using your existing credentials.
Step 3: Submit Your Application
Important Note: Once you submit your application, you cannot edit it. If you need to add documents after submission, contact UNLV Jobs.
- Select the job title to view the description and qualifications.
- Select “Apply.” Information from your professional profile will automatically populate..
- Complete all required fields.
- Upload supporting documents (CV/resume, cover letter, professional references).
- Review and submit.
- Select the job title to view the description and qualifications.
- Select “Apply” and complete the application form, including your full name, contact information, and other details.
- Important: Your entry in the "Legal Name" field must match exactly as it appears on your Social Security card. This is required for identity verification and payroll purposes if hired for the position. If you commonly use a different name, you may enter it in the "Preferred Name" field.
- Complete all required fields in the application form.
- Upload any required documents (CV/resume, cover letter, references).
- Review your application thoroughly before submitting
Step 4: Monitor Your Application Status
Once your application is submitted, you can track its status in Workday.
- Log into Workday.
- Search “Job Hub.”
- View “Recent Applications” or select “View All Applications.”
- Sign into UNLV Workday Career site.
- Click on “Candidate Home.”
- Navigate to “My Applications.”
If you need to update your application, do not withdraw it. Contact UNLV Jobs and include the job requisition number in the subject line.
Reset Your Candidate Home Account
If you’ve already created a Workday Candidate Home account and cannot log in, follow these steps to reset your password:
- Visit UNLV Workday Career site
- Click “Sign In” located in the upper right corner of the page
- Select “Forget your password?” to open the password reset page
- Enter your email address (use the same email you used when creating your Workday Candidate Home account)
- Workday will send you a password reset email (check your spam/junk folder if you don’t see it).
- Click the link in the email to create a new password.
- Sign in with your new password.
Please note:
- Workday automatically locks a candidate's account for 30 minutes after 5 unsuccessful sign-in attempts.
- To unlock your account, you can select "Forgot Password," and this will send a request and a one-time use link for resetting your password (expires in 2 hours).
- Workday limits candidates to 5 password reset requests in a 24-hour period.
Understanding Job Categories
UNLV offers individuals the opportunity to start, continue, and advance their careers through an array of job opportunities. Jobs are categorized into five groups based on job type, duties, and other relevant identifiers. The categories are as follows.
Academic Faculty
Teaching and research positions for instructors, lecturers, professors, and academic professionals. These roles support UNLV’s educational mission through instruction, scholarship, and service.
Administrative Faculty
Professional, salaried positions that support university operations, programs, and services. These roles often involve leadership, project management, or specialized expertise in areas such as finance, student services, IT, or communications.
Classified Staff
Hourly or salaried positions that support the daily operations of the university. These roles may include administrative support, skilled trades, custodial services, and other essential operational functions. Classified positions follow Nevada State personnel guidelines.
Postdoctoral Scholars
A postdoctoral appointment is a temporary specialized education and training position in research, teaching, performance, or scholarship. It is established for the continued education and professional growth of the candidate. The appointment is under the direction of faculty sponsor(s), and it can be in any discipline or academic unit on campus.
