Many JMS students build their skills and develop their professional networks through student chapters of industry organizations. The following chapters are active here at UNLV:
American Advertising Federation (AAF)
American Advertising Federation’s student chapter explores topics within the advertising and integrated marketing communication fields through discussion, panels, and professional networking opportunities. Students from this organization also participate in The National Student Advertising Competition.
National Student Advertising Competition Team (NSAC)
The American Advertising Federation holds the National Student Advertising Competition each spring. Teams develop a comprehensive strategic marketing plan (including advertising, public relations, and social media elements) to meet the client’s objectives. Student teams develop a plans book and pitch to compete at the regional and (if they win) national levels. UNLV’s team placed sixth at nationals in 2013.
Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA)
The UNLV chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America helps prepare aspiring public relations professionals with their career goals. The chapter offers networking opportunities and workshops on PR skills, resume writing, portfolio building, interview techniques and more. Lean more by following them on Facebook and Twitter.
Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ)
The student chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) supplements in-class learning with additional programming to help young journalists prepare to enter a dynamic news world. The chapter holds community service events, workshops, discussions, and professional networking opportunities. Contact them to learn more or follow them on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
