Eligibility

If you have five years or more of service and will receive retirement income from a Nevada System of Higher Education’s (NSHE) retirement plan, you are eligible to continue your health coverage as a retiree. Health coverage includes:

  • Medical
  • Dental
  • Prescription
  • Vision
  • Life insurance ($12,500 for retirees)

If you have less than five years of service and are not receiving retirement income from a university retirement plan, you are eligible to continue your health insurance under the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA). You will receive COBRA enrollment forms as soon as the Public Employees’ Benefits Program (PEBP) is notified that you are no longer an employee. For additional information, contact PEBP at 800-326-5496.

Continuing Coverage

To continue health insurance coverage into retirement, complete benefits enrollment forms at least a month before you plan to retire. This will help ensure that you receive the correct subsidized amount and that it is applied to your first month’s premium. To apply, contact the benefits office at 702-895-3504.

Cost

The cost of your health care coverage depends on the plan you choose, your years of service with the state, and whether or not you have Medicare. The higher your years of service, the higher your subsidy will be. After 20 years of service, you will receive the maximum subsidy allowed. To calculate your monthly premiums, view the premium rate charts.

Paying for Coverage

You may elect to receive a monthly bill from PEBP and pay by check or have your credit/debit card — VISA or MasterCard — charged automatically each month.
