Mandatory Participation Requirements

All university employees are required to participate in a mandatory retirement plan, depending on your appointment type, in lieu of Social Security. We are exempt from Social Security because we are a state agency. If you are not sure of your appointment type, view your Job Family profile in Workday.

Plan Eligibility Based on Employee Type

UNLV retirement benefits are provided by the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) and the State of Nevada Public Employees’ plans. Depending upon your employee type you may participate in more than one of these plans.
