Description

This presentation will highlight the key education and student wellness initiatives being proposed by the 82nd Nevada State Legislature. Public policy experts from UNLV and Clark County School District will share how to track the bills, the implications for each, and how you can advocate for change through your representatives. 

Admission is free and CEUs are available for those attending the live event. A recording of the event will be available online.

Presenters

Maria Marinch, DPP – Executive Director, National Institute for the Advancement of Education

Dr. Maria Marinch has 30 years of combined experience in education, public relations, marketing, community outreach, multiculturalism, and languages. Before her current role as the executive director of the National Institute for the Advancement of Education, Dr. Marinch was part of the Clark County School District (CCSD) executive team, serving 316,000 students and families at the 5th largest school district in the nation. 

Patricia Hadad, MEd – Director of Government Relations, Clark County School District

Patricia Haddad is a self-proclaimed Las Vegas native, Arab-American, friend, advocate, and organizer. After attending Clark County School District (CCSD) as a student from grades three through twelve, Patricia has the privilege of returning to CCSD as the director of government relations where she works to build and sustain relationships with local, state, and federal agencies and elected officials to ensure students are centered in public policy decisions. Previously, Patricia served as chief of staff for the English Learner Success forum and as chief of staff/senior director of public policy for Opportunity 180. A first-generation college grad, Patricia holds a master’s degree in special education from the UNLV College of Education (‘17) and a bachelor’s degree in sociology. Patricia finds joy in long yoga sessions, petting her senior dog, Thomas, and dreaming up ways to improve the quality of life in Southern Nevada with her partner, Andrew. 

About the Scholarship In Practice Web Lecture Series

Aligned with UNLV’s Top Tier goal of community engagement, the Scholarship in Practice Web Lecture Series is a forum offered to local and national communities to discuss critical issues and propose concrete solutions on topics related to PK-20 education and mental health. Steeped in the latest scholarship, lectures are designed to support educators, practitioners, and other stakeholders. The UNLV College of Education provides approximately six to eight lectures per year.
