Description

Join over 200 UNLV students for our semesterly tradition, Service Day. This Spring Service Day, go out and do 3 hours of service with various community partners around the Las Vegas Valley. Tasks vary depending on what the community partner may need but volunteers can expect to lift heavy items, be consistently moving throughout the day and doing all sorts of repetitive tasks. Please make sure you wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. No exceptions will be made for anyone wearing otherwise. Long-sleeve shirt also highly encouraged.

Volunteers will meet at the Student Union in SU 208. Please make sure to arrive on time at 8 a.m. to meet with your group and participate in a short educational activity with your volunteer group.

Volunteers can expect one of our amazing Service Day t-shirts featuring Vinny the Volunteer. Volunteers can also expect light breakfast options (while supplies last) and a free lunch as a thank you for your service once they are done and return back to campus. Transportation is limited to only a few select sites and is not provided to Opportunity Village. We strongly encourage carpooling to the site to facilitate and make things easier for all participants.

Since 1954, Opportunity Village has been dedicated to helping people with disabilities find the very best version of themselves. Through workforce development, community employment, day services, inclusive housing, arts and social recreation, they are able to find new friends, realize future career paths, seek independence and community integration, and unleash creative passions. Opportunity Village thrives with the funding from our social enterprises, signature events and the generous philanthropy of our donors and community partners. Together, we are successfully empowering, employing, and serving people with disabilities – positively impacting lives.

Volunteers can assist the team in our Employee Resource Center working on small piece projects. Specific project will be determined by the need/rotation of the team the day of your service as their projects are time sensitive and rotate. All projects can be accomplished sitting or standing and are typically small dexterity in nature. Some examples are; cleaning and twisting cox cables for shipment, stuffing conference bags, small packing projects (coffee cup with cream, sugar, and stir) etc
