Poverty Law and Policy Landscape in Nevada CLE

When

Oct. 4, 2023, 6:30pm to 8:30pm

Campus Location

Description

The goal of our Poverty Law and Policy Landscape in Nevada CLE panel is to introduce to or refresh attendees about the Nevada poverty law and policy landscape, including some of the key actors in Nevada, their roles, and where the Poverty Law and Policy Clinic fits in. We will offer insights into the student Poverty Law and Policy Clinic experience and cover some substantive law. We hope these CLEs will provide useful information to the legal community, encourage attorneys to engage in or in a wider range of pro bono services in the poverty law and policy field, bring attention to the legal needs of impoverished Nevadans and those of modest means, and, equip attorneys with relevant substantive legal knowledge.

About the William S. Boyd School of Law Poverty Law & Policy Clinic

The Poverty Law and Policy Clinic is centrally concerned with helping public and private decision-makers contribute to mitigating and preventing legal and human rights problems for people who are impoverished or of modest means. The clinic takes an expansive view of poverty, going beyond a simple annual income test, and including situational conditions that constitute not having what you need to get by in contemporary society with a focus on systemic change.

This clinic was inspired by the students in the William S. Boyd School of Law's fall 2022 Poverty Law seminar class.
