Henderson Symphony Orchestra: A French Valentine
Campus Location
Description
The Henderson Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Artistic Advisor and Conductor Taras Krysa, present A French Valentine featuring one of the greatest symphonic masterpieces, French composer Hector Berlioz’ Symphony Fantastique.
The program also includes a series of songs by Frenchman Joseph Canteloube. The composer’s popular Songs of the Auvergne is well-known for its picturesque portrayal of the mountainous and beautiful Auvergne region of central France, featuring soloist soprano Athena Mertes. Henderson Symphony Orchestra Concertmaster Patrick Hsieh will perform an additional French valentine, Gabriel Fauré’s Berceuse for violin and orchestra.
“I especially like this program because of the wide variety of orchestral colors the audience will be able to experience,” said Music Advisor Taras Krysa. “The Symphony Fantastique allows several members of the orchestra to take solo turns and other sections of the orchestra to play their instruments in unusual ways. The overall effect is a brilliant, technicolor display of sound.”
