This presentation addresses the professional journey of a Ph.D. in anthropology who transitioned from the field of bioarchaeology in Peru to User Experience (UX) research within the financial technology sector. Originally focused on the study of ancient human remains to understand past cultures, Proctor has shifted her career to the analysis and improvement of digital user experiences in the finance industry. The talk will explore the complexities and benefits associated with moving from an academic setting to a corporate environment, emphasizing the transferable skills that facilitated this change.

Proctor will discuss adapting anthropological research methods for UX research applications, underscoring the importance of understanding human behavior and cultural dynamics in the creation of user-centered financial technology solutions. The presentation aims to provide an overview of the process of transitioning professional identities and integrating into a new industry. It will also reflect on the application of anthropological skills in a corporate context, offering perspectives for individuals considering a similar career path.
