Alt Breaks Immigration at the US/Mexico Border trip

Description

Spend the week serving and learning about immigration at the US-Mexico border. Community engagement activities may include service projects such as desert water drops, speaking with day laborers, and visiting Chicano Park.

Please note: The service projects on this trip may include a border checkpoint and identification check.

Price

$50 mandatory deposit + $50 trip fee = $100 total in fees*

*Students can apply for travel grants to help cover a portion of the $100 trip fee within the main application.

Admission Information

All students interested in attending an Alternative Break Trip must first submit an application and mandatory $50 deposit.

The application deadline has been extended to 9 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 26.

To apply, complete the following steps:

  1. Sign into your WebTrac account
    1. a) If you need to create a new WebTrac account, enter your student email address and the word "password" (all lowercase) as your password on the sign in page. This will prompt the system to create a new account for you. Then, check your student email for a verification email, follow the instructions, and finish registering your new account.

      b) If you are having trouble getting access to WebTrac, first try calling Outdoor Adventures at 702-774-7130. If this does not work, please contact Zak Kucherka, Program Coordinator for Outdoor Adventures, at 702-774-7131 or zak.kucherka@unlv.edu.

      c) If you are still experiencing trouble with the application, please email altbreaks@unlv.edu outlining which trip you were trying to apply for so that we have documentation of your interest before the application deadline.
  2. Once you are logged into WebTrac, use the below instructions to find our application page to select your desired trip and follow the application prompts provided:
    1. Select "Search" on the navigation menu, then select "Activity Search"
    2. Clear the selection in the search box at the top left portion of the page
    3. Select "Service Learning and Leadership" and search
    4. Select "Immigration/San Diego Application & Deposit" to add to cart
    5. Complete the questions and check box for agreement to waiver terms
    6. Finish application by paying the $50 deposit
