Supporting Top Tier Research
The Office of Sponsored Programs serves as the principal point of contact for individuals seeking and/or managing external
funding for research, scholarship, and creative activities. It acknowledges and supports the efforts of faculty in seeking
and utilizing external funding on behalf of their own professional interests and on behalf of the university’s mission.

How to Obtain and Manage Research Grants: Option 2

Step 1: Funding
The university supports its research and other activities through funding from federal agencies, private foundations, and corporations. Growth in external funding will be instrumental to UNLV to achieve their Top Tier Initiative and reach their goal of being recognized as a top tier public university in research, education, and community impact by 2025.

Step 2: Proposal
A well-written, skillfully prepared, and organized research proposal is vital to the success of an application for research funding. We can help in many areas such as locating funding opportunities, reviewing and editing proposal text, developing a budget, and reviewing and submitting the completed proposal.

Step 3: Award
The Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) holds institutional signature authority on the acceptance of all sponsored program awards. Therefore, OSP is responsible for the review, negotiation, and approval of all such awards before they are finalized. OSP is the only university unit authorized to accept sponsored program awards.

Step 4: Closeout
There are various activities associated with closing out a sponsored project. There are usually final reporting obligations, financial reconciliations, and account closeout tasks that must be completed.
