Purpose

This guide outlines the full process for departments and colleges at UNLV to request funding for team-building activities. Funding supports initiatives that foster collaboration, improve morale, and promote inclusion within academic and administrative units.

Step 1: Review Eligibility & Funding Guidelines

  • All UNLV academic and administrative departments are eligible to apply.
  • Activities must take place between July 1, 2025, and June 30, 2026.
  • Allowable expenses include supplies, refreshments, venue fees, or facilitation costs directly tied to engagement goals.
  • Non-allowable expenses include alcohol, gifts, or unrelated operational costs.

Step 2: Prepare Your Proposal

Departments should develop a clear and concise proposal that includes:

  • A brief description of the planned activity and intended participants (500 words or less).
  • Description of expected outcomes and how the event supports engagement or morale.
  • A line-item budget with justification for the requested amount.
  • Approval from the department head or director.

Step 3: Complete the Funding Request Form

  • Access the Departmental Team-Building Funding Request Form (FY2025–2026) via the President’s Office website.
  • Complete all sections of the form, including department details, contact information, funding amount, description, and outcomes.
  • Submit all requested information via the online application form.

Step 4: Application Review & Notification

The Institutional Engagement & Experience team reviews applications within 5 days of receipt. Priority is given to proposals that are creative, inclusive in nature, and indicate measurable outcomes. Departments are notified of approval status via email, including next steps for fund transfer or reimbursement.

Step 5: Post-Activity Reflection Report

Funded initiatives require a short reflection within 5 days of the completed event. This reflection should include:

  • Number of participants.
  • Description of the event and highlights.
  • Summary of engagement outcomes.
  • Photos (optional).
  • Send this report to engagement@unlv.edu.

Step 6: Recognition & Sharing Best Practices

Outstanding activities may be featured in newsletters, UNLV Today or engagement showcases. Departments demonstrating strong participation and measurable outcomes may be invited to share best practices.
