Travel Funding

The Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) Travel Funding Program provides support for research-related activities such as presentations or performances at professional conferences or events, field work, data collection, and/or professional training.

This program budgets a monthly $500 travel stipend to successful applicants. In the event of multiple application submissions in the same month, OUR will consider all applicants and divide the $500 amongst students based on application merit.

Please be reminded that following instructions and submitting complete applications is part of your professional development. As such, please note that incomplete applications will not be considered.

Eligibility

The OUR Travel Funding Program is open to all current UNLV undergraduate students with a declared major working under the guidance of an NSHE faculty member.

Application Process and Deadlines

Students are required to submit the following as part of the application package:

  1. 1-page Personal Statement
  2. Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  3. Acceptance or Invitation Letter/Email
  4. Itemized Budget
  5. Institutional Review Board (IRB)/Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) (if applicable)

UNLV faculty research mentors are required to submit a letter of support to ourleadership@unlv.edu.

The application process will remain open throughout the academic year with a deadline of at least one month prior to scheduled research-related travel or activity. The applications will be processed, however, one month prior to the scheduled research-related travel or activity for each month.

Program Requirements

Awardees are expected to meet all of the requirements listed below:

  1. Present at OUR’s Research Symposium
  2. Acknowledge OUR's funding support in any subsequent presentation and/or performance

Funding Limitations and Non‐Covered Items

  • Only one application per applicant may be submitted per academic year.
  • Only one application may be submitted for a specific event or activity.
  • Individuals shall not receive more than five hundred ($500.00) dollars per award.
  • Professional organization membership cannot be purchased using this travel funding.
