Steps to Apply

1. Meet with Honors Advising

Schedule an appointment with Honors College Advising to discuss how HON 498, HON 499, and the HON 400-level seminars fit into your graduation plan.

2. Confirm Faculty Advisor for Honors Thesis

Identify a UNLV professor within your academic discipline who is willing to serve as your Faculty Advisor - the chair of your Honors Thesis committee. Collaboratively discuss and define a general idea for the thesis with your Faculty Advisor.

3. Meet with the Associate Dean

Schedule an appointment with the Associate Dean of the Honors College to discuss the particulars of RH and the general idea for your thesis per your Faculty Advisor’s consent. Permitting that the Associate Dean approves the project, you will be granted the green light to apply. Appointments can be scheduled with the Associate Dean by calling the Honors College front desk at 702-895-2263.

4. Submit Application

Submit the RH Application Form and a writing sample (research paper from a previous UNLV course) to honors@unlv.edu. The Honors College will solicit a letter of recommendation from your Faculty Advisor and an endorsement from the chair of the academic department from which your research/creative project will originate.

Steps after Admission

1. Continue refining your idea

Meet again with your faculty advisor to start refining the thesis idea and determine a project timeline.

2. Confirm with Associate Dean

Once you’ve fleshed out a plan for your thesis, schedule another appointment with the Associate Dean of the Honors College to confirm project timelines.
