Shared Stories, Shared Healing
Campus Location
Description
Join the Jean Nidetch Care Center, the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art, and the Saltman Center for Conflict Resolution for Shared Stories, Shared Healing, an intimate afternoon exploring the transformative power of storytelling and writing.
Together, we are carving out a space to slow down, listen, and honor our personal journeys. This collaborative event embraces the power of storytelling. Storytelling, as a form of truth-telling, helps us work through conflict and harm in ways that embrace our dignity and humanity. Storytelling also serves as a vital tool for healing. It can help us process the past, find common ground with others, and reclaim our personal narratives.
Shared Stories: We’ll begin by hearing from storytellers sharing from their personal experiences, and exploring what we learn and what we offer as listeners in community. This session will be hosted by Aparna Polavarapu, professor of law and co-director of the Saltman Center of Conflict Resolution at William S. Boyd School of Law.
Reflective Letter Writing Workshop: Following the discussion, the Care Center will transition into a creative workshop. Participants will be invited to write a letter to their past or future selves, or to someone else, as a way to externalize feelings and set intentions for the future. Help create a collaborative artwork that will be exhibited at the Barrick Museum!
