Play Along At Home: Piloting a Model for Home-School-Media Partnerships
Office/Remote Location
Description
It is often said that parents are a child’s first teacher. In recognition of this truth, Vegas PBS developed a pilot program to strengthen science and socioemotional learning for Las Vegas preschoolers by bridging home, school, and media environments as interconnected learning spaces.
The pilot, a project of the Ready To Learn Initiative, launched with six participating schools. Participating teachers led workshops for parents interested in teaching science and socioemotional concepts using materials developed by Vegas PBS. One year later, the parents were interviewed to assess the lasting impact of these materials and identify any changes in their children’s understanding.
Jessica Russell, coordinator of Ready to Learn, and Cameron Coleman, researcher and assistant professor of education, will share their findings in this upcoming Scholarship in Practice webinar.
