During an earthquake, you might have only seconds to protect yourself before strong shaking. Practice helps you be ready to respond. 

At 10:19 a.m. on October 19, 2023 UNLV will be participating in the Great Nevada ShakeOut. An emergency alert will sound via multiple platforms to signify the start of the drill. It is important to note that this alert is only a practice drill and not an actual emergency. Participants will be instructed to Drop to the ground, take Cover, and Hold On for 60 seconds.

Use the ShakeOut drill as a chance to look around and take note of what objects could fall and cause injury and make sure to secure those items after the drill. At home, run a drill with your family or roommates. Talk through the different ways to be safe during an earthquake.
