Description

Open-Mindedness: The Key to Creating Culturally Responsive and Motivationally Supportive Learning Contexts

Dr. Revathy Kumar's research centers around diversity, equity, culturally responsive teaching, and the establishment of optimal learning environments for all students, with a particular focus on marginalized youth in school and university settings. These themes form the core of the graduate courses she instructs and the contributions she makes to her profession.

In advocating for a comprehensive understanding of the challenges faced by diverse minoritized K-12 and higher education students, Kumar underscores the importance of employing transdisciplinary theoretical approaches and culturally appropriate research designs and methods. Within this framework, she will articulate the advantages of forming a multicultural research team dedicated to realizing the project's objectives.

Drawing insights from her research, Kumar will unveil a conceptual model designed to foster culturally responsive and inclusive learning environments. The culmination of her presentation will involve reflections on open-mindedness as the guiding principle behind transdisciplinary theories and as a fundamental construct essential for addressing the challenges that social inequities present to the education and well-being of all students, particularly those who are minorities.
