Description

Help us celebrate the second issue of the Dry Heat art journal with a live panel event. Three local artists—Anthony Bondi, Brent Holmes, and Laurence Myers Reese—will be with us in the West Gallery to discuss the significance of art writing in Las Vegas and beyond.

Our new Dry Heat features writing by Las Vegas-based artists Nima Abkenar, Gig Depio, and Julian Kilker, along with an examination of contemporary Iranian protest graffiti by a citizen of Iran who goes by the pseudonym Ain/Amal. Ain/Amal is responding to themes in Abkenar's essay, which is a meditation on his current predicament as a displaced Iranian living in Las Vegas while history-making events are happening in his homeland. Meanwhile, Depio ponders the role of painting in the fast-paced contemporary world, and Kilker describes his idiosyncratic photographic practice as he affirms the value of the desert as a place for artistic experimentation.

You can read Dry Heat online or pick up a free hard copy at this event.
