In this workshop, students will explore the intersection of big data, corporate sustainability, and community impact. Learn about how professor Benjamin Leffel is using big data in his research on corporate sustainability to understand who owns whom among the biggest green businesses globally, to map the geography of emissions trading among the world's cities, and map the biggest green businesses in Las Vegas. Professor Leffel is working with the City of Las Vegas and Clark County to leverage his mapping of Las Vegas' biggest green businesses to build a new coalition of local businesses to harness the power of business to fight climate change.

Workshop Outcomes

By participating in this workshop students will:

  • Develop an understanding of how big data can be used to analyze corporate sustainability.
  • Discover how data-driven insights can drive positive change and make a difference in the Las Vegas community.
  • Gain perspective on how to collaborate with local authorities and businesses to leverage research impact.
