The UNLV Interdisciplinary Research Symposium brings together faculty, staff, and students from across the university to explore the power of collaboration. Join the Division of Research for a day of interactive sessions, lightning talks, and networking designed to:

  • Build knowledge and capacity for interdisciplinary projects
  • Foster collaboration across research and scholarship
  • Strengthen skills in seeking and securing funding
  • Learn from colleagues’ innovative research
  • Participate in the President’s Interdisciplinary Research Accelerator Challenge

Program Highlights

  • 8–9 a.m.: Check-in, Light Breakfast, Welcome Remarks
  • 9 –11 a.m.: Capacity-Building Sessions - Gain practical tools and insights from experienced interdisciplinary researchers:
    • Let’s Brainstorm: Identifying solutions to support interdisciplinary research. Hosts: Maxim Gakh & Courtney Coughenour
    • From Vision to Action: Tools and strategies for collaborative research management. Hosts: Monika Neda & Jaci Batista
    • Solving Complex Problems through Collaboration: Lessons from UNLV’s Statistical Transparency of Policing (STOP) Project. Hosts: Darin Mains & Deborah Kuhls
    • Harmony is Overrated: Insights from Team Science and Interdisciplinary Experience. Host: Stefani Relles
  • 11–11:30 a.m.: Quickfire Presentations - Hear from five teams representing diverse interdisciplinary projects in rapid-fire 5-minute presentations.
  • 11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.: Lunch & Resource Fair
  • 12:30–2 p.m.: President's Interdisciplinary Research Accelerator Challenge - Watch finalist teams pitch their ideas for the chance to work with national research development firm McAllister & Quinn on funding proposal development. Remarks: Interim President Heavey
  • 2:30–4 p.m.: Poster Session: Showcasing Interdisciplinary Excellence - Explore innovative projects from across campus. Engage directly with presenters, exchange ideas, and discover potential collaborators in a dynamic, interactive setting.
