The Undergraduate Certificate in Japanese Language focuses on learning Japanese language skills and developing a strong foundation for the effective use of the language socially, academically, and professionally. This program should be of particular interest to students considering careers in education, government service, health care, hospitality, international business, journalism, media, or other professions where proficiency in a second language is important.

Learning Outcomes

  • Develop greater fluency and accuracy for effective communication in the Japanese language.
  • Read authentic Japanese texts and materials to deepen understanding of the Japanese language and culture and write in Japanese at an advanced level (e.g., research papers).
  • Execute language at proficiency levels equivalent to the JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) N3 level.
  • Explain the sociocultural aspects of the language and apply in their field and career.
