Students are encouraged to call our office to schedule an initial intake appointment. Our on-call counselor is available during open hours to see students who are experiencing significant distress as well as to consult with students, staff, and faculty about mental health issues.
Except for the cost of medication and certain psychological tests, all clinical services are provided at no charge to currently enrolled UNLV students who have paid their Health Fee. For couples counseling, one person must be a currently enrolled student. All clinical services are confidential.
Professional ethics codes and state laws consider the personal information discussed in counseling to be strictly confidential. All information gathered in counseling, including the fact that the student has come to CAPS, is held in strict confidence. No information is released to university officials, faculty members, parents or outside agencies without written prior authorization from the student. An exception is when there is imminent danger of serious harm to self or others. In this instance, the counselor must take action to prevent harm.
The Student Wellness Center, which includes the Student Health Center, Counseling and Psychological Services, Pharmacy, & Lab, will be closed Monday, December 19, 2016-Friday, January 6, 2017 for renovations. The Student Wellness Center will resume normal operations beginning January 9, 2017. From January 9-January 13, 2017, the Student Wellness Center will be open during the winter break hours of 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Regular hours will resume January 17, 2017. Please note that no medical visits, walk-ins, pharmacy, lab, or releases of medical records will be available during this time.
