The purpose of this scholarship is to provide support for a graduate or undergraduate student who is pursuing a leadership position in public health or healthcare. The scholarship will first be applied to any tuition balance the student may have, and any remaining funds shall be distributed to the student as a monetary award.

Recipients may reapply for this scholarship in subsequent years, provided they maintain the scholarship criteria and remain in good standing with the institution. Any Change of Conditions to this document references the policies of the Board of Regents of the NSHE, the University.

The candidate(s) shall be selected by the School of Public Health (Scholarship Committee) from among those applying through Financial Aid and Scholarships (Office). If the Committee fails to determine an eligible candidate(s) for the scholarship(s), the Office shall make such determination. The Office shall administer the funding of the annual SPH Alumni Association Scholarship. Donors to the scholarship fund may not participate in the selection of students for this award.

The SPH Alumni Association Scholarship shall be awarded to a student(s) meeting the following criteria

  1. Student may demonstrate financial need as determined by the UNLV Office of Financial Aid
  2. Student may be enrolled in classes either full or part-time
  3. Student must complete a UNLV Scholarship Application
  4. Student must be at the undergraduate or graduate level
  5. Student must have a 3.0 cumulative grade point average or higher
  6. Student must be formally admitted to UNLV
  7. Student must be a Nevada resident
  8. Recipients may reapply for this scholarship in subsequent years, provided they maintain the scholarship criteria and remain in good standing with the institution

Application Process

Students should submit the following application materials (no more than 1 page total) to scholarships.sph@unlv.edu no later than March 1, 2024:

The awards will be given at the May 3rd, 2024 School of Public Health Honors Ceremony. Attendance is required.

  • Student should submit a short essay (max 250 words) stating why public health and healthcare is important to them
  • Declared area of concentration
  • Name and number of UNLV advisor that will be contacted.
  • Email subject line should contain “LAST NAME and AWARD being applied to”

Award Stipulations

Recipients of the SPH Alumni Association Scholarship grant UNLV the right to publish their name and use the applicant’s likeness in a photograph in any and all of its publications, including website entries, without payment or any other consideration. These materials will become the property of UNLV and will not be returned. Recipients grant UNLV the authority to edit, alter, copy, publish or distribute this photo for purpose of publicizing UNLV’s programs or for any other lawful purpose.
