Statement of Purpose

UNLV has invested in having on-site printing capabilities to best meet the needs of the campus community. Our centralized printing operation has extensive technical printing experience and is designed to be responsive to university priorities. Reprographics offers offset, digital, and wide format printing and works closely with the graphic artists in Creative Services. The department has a philosophy of “right sourcing” - if a project does not fit the equipment capabilities on campus or cannot meet a tight deadline, then it will work with one of the printers it contracts with to get the job done.

Reprographics/Design Services has the delegated authority to manage the acquisition and production of printed material for UNLV and should always be the department contacted for any UNLV printing project. The department’s in-house operation provides economical printing and bindery services for a wide range of digital and offset projects and offers online ordering for business cards, letterhead, envelopes, digital printing, and stock items. If Reprographics/Design Services cannot produce a project in its own facilities, the department arranges to get it printed off campus through a network of university-contracted printers. It competitively bids out each printing project with approved contractors, which saves the university both money and time through a streamlined procurement process.

Entities Affected by this Policy

  • Reprographics/Design Services
  • Purchasing
  • Any department in need of copying or printing services

Who Should Read this Policy

Any department in need of copying or printing services need to consult with Reprographics/Design Services before contacting off-campus printers.

Policy

No copying or printing services may be purchased from off-campus vendors without approval from Reprographics/Design Services. The Purchasing department will refer requisitions for printing to Reprographics if they don't have Reprographics approval, which could delay your project. The P-card should not be used for printing and typesetting services provided by Reprographics/Design Services without the prior approval of the Program Administrator (Purchasing Card User Manual). Approval cannot be granted after a project has already been copied or been printed. People who buy printing or copying without following purchasing and approval guidelines may have to pay for that printing themselves.
