The newly expanded UPD K9 Unit consists of 2 officers, 1 sergeant, and 3 K9 partners. All of these dogs are trained in explosive detection and are meant to further our community based policing philosophy to our campuses. All handlers and partners completed their 160 hours each of detection and handler training and certification from Ford K9 training agency in April of 2021. Meet our handlers and their partners:

  • Sgt. McCleve and K9 Astra, a 3 year old German Shorthaired Pointer
  • Officer Moses and K9 Laya, a 2 year old Labrador Retriever 
  • Officer Williams and K9 Macey, a 2 year old German Wirehaired Pointer
