K-9 & Special Event Security

Special Event Security

The mission of the Special Events force is to ensure the personal safety of the public and the security of campus property during special events. For a fee, we schedule police coverage for special events on campus, including:

  • Student events
  • Sporting events
  • Visiting dignitaries
  • Concerts and festivals

The newly expanded UPD K9 Unit consists of 3 officers, 1 sergeant, and 4 K9 partners. All of these dogs are trained in explosive detection and are meant to further our community based policing philosophy to our campuses. All handlers and partners completed their 160 hours each of detection and handler training and certification from Ford K9 training agency in April of 2021.

  • Sgt. McCleve and K9 Astra, a 3 year old German Shorthaired Pointer
  • Officer Carney and K9 Sully, a 2 year old Vizsla
  • Officer Johnson and K9 Macey, a 2 year old German Wirehaired Pointer
  • Officer Moses and K9 Laya, a 2 year old Labrador Retriever
