Biography

Mary Bondmass earned her bachelor’s and master’s in nursing from Loyola University in Chicago, and her doctoral degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She has almost 30 years of critical care and emergency nursing experience, has been certified and practiced as a clinical nurse specialist, and is currently a certified nurse educator with more than 15 years in the academic setting.  

Bondmass has led grant-supported research focused on advanced practice tele-management of chronic heart failure, diabetes, and atrial fibrillation. More recently, her research has examined nursing education with an emphasis on teaching and learning evidence-based practice at the undergraduate and graduate levels. She is interested in pre and post self-efficacy among undergraduate and graduate students regarding QSEN competencies, and has initial QSEN research in progress.

Bondmass has published data in medical, nursing, and lay literature, and has several research book chapters to her credit.

She has reviewed manuscripts for professional publications including Journal of Nursing Education, International Journal of Nursing Education Scholarship, and Research in Nursing and Health, and has served on several health advisory boards in Washington D.C. including the National Consumers League.

As the former director of faculty development at the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), Bondmass is well versed in all AACN Essentials documents as well as the requirements for Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accreditation.

Overview

Dr. Mary Bondmass has over 30 years of nursing experience with expertise in practice and teaching critical care and emergency nursing. In the past 10 years, Dr. Bondmass has held positions at UNLV as Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs, and most recently served as Acting Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. She is an active member of multiple School of Nursing and Graduate College Committees.

Dr. Bondmass has been certified and practiced as a clinical nurse specialist, and is currently a certified nurse educator with nearly 20 years of experience in teaching/learning and over 10  years of academic leadership. Classes Taught

Dr. Bondmass has previously taught Evidence Based Practice - Translation of Evidence, Research & Biostatistics, Nurse Educator Practicum, Nursing Theory, and Translational Evidence for health Care Systems at the graduate level, as well as Pharmacology, Advanced Med/Surg, and Gerontology Nursing at the undergraduate level.

Awards, recognitions, or group affiliations

Dr. Bondmass has earned the Sister Helen Jerrel/Clinical Excellence Award from Loyola University and the Distinguished Nurse Leader with Lifetime Achievement Award from the Nevada Nurses Foundation. She is also the recipient of UNLV School of Nursing’s Tenure Track Excellence in Research Award and Excellence in Teaching award.

Dr. Bondmass is the President of the Nevada Nurses Association and UNLV Liaison to University Medical Center Southern Nevada Research and EBP Council. She is also an Advisory Board member for the Nevada Nurses Foundation and an Editorial Board member for RNFormation, a Nevada Nurses Association publication.
