About the Team Competition

The team competition is a time when students, faculty, and staff can come together to show off their Rebel Pride. Good sportsmanship is pivotal to the success of the competition. The three competition divisions are Greek life, student organizations, and residence halls.

  • Multiple groups and organizations may work together to form one team for the Homecoming competition.
  • Teams may not exceed 150 people.
  • Groups that work together must create a joint name and jointly compete throughout the competition. Points are awarded per team, not per individual organization.
  • Only one person should be listed on the Homecoming registration form as the responsible representative for your team, and all correspondence will be through email.

Themes

Every year, UNLV’s homecoming celebration is planned around a specific theme.

  • Each team is required to register online and select their top five theme choices that they will use throughout the competition, including their window decoration, Rebel Variety Show performance, and parade entry.
  • Team themes will be assigned at an early registration lottery. All teams registered by that time will be drawn at random and have their choice of theme based on availability beginning with their first choice and then moving down the list if their higher choice was already taken by another team.
  • After the lottery, all other entries will be given the first available theme on their list in the order of their registration time.
  • The Homecoming Committee will notify teams of their theme within one day of selection.

Window Decorating

UNLV’s Window Decorating Contest is a Homecoming tradition that gives students, faculty and staff the chance to show off their artistic skills and represent their Rebel Pride to earn Homecoming points. Participating groups will be assigned a window to decorate on the first floor of the student union.

Past Winners and Themes

Through the years many different student organizations have participated in a weeklong series of homecoming events to win the title of best Greek division, student organization division, and residence hall division.

From 1996 to 2003 only Greek organizations competed in the team competition. In 2004, student organizations began to compete as well — making the team competition what it is today.
