University Forum Lecture: Sex, Censorship, and the New Higher Education Culture Wars

Office/Remote Location

RLL Room 101

Description

Lynn Comella, Ph.D, professor of Gender and Sexuality Studies, University of Nevada, Las Vegas

Drawing on in-depth interviews with sexuality scholars at universities and colleges across the United States, this talk examines how professors navigate the politics of campus free speech and academic freedom in an increasingly polarized time. What specific challenges and forms of institutional gatekeeping do they face and how are they responding?

This research offers critical insights into understanding how professors who teach difficult or potentially controversial material navigate their institutional contexts at a time when higher education is increasingly under attack and new forms of censorship are being codified into official policy.
