Description
The Tesura Quartet will perform string quartets by Haydn, Shostakovitch, and Tchaikovsky. Comprised of violinists Sophia Perez-Monroe and Aaron Tseng, violist John Lee, and cellist Matthew Lee, the ensemble was formed in 2024 and has established a reputation as one of the most exciting quartets in the Midwest. Based in Kansas City, the quartet formed out of a passion for music. Since then, the quartet has been selected to participate in festivals, competitions, and masterclasses hosted by some of the country’s leading musicians.
Their highlights include winning First Prize at the Las Vegas Music Competition and receiving the Rising Star Quartet Award. The quartet also earned full scholarships to the 2025 Kent Blossom Music Festival, 2025 Shanghai Conservatory International Chamber Music Festival and Competition, and acceptance into Juilliard String Quartet Seminar. Alongside their accomplishments, they are regularly invited to perform for MAPPA, Morse Church, KC Museum, and local senior residences. Furthermore, the Tesura Quartet has performed in masterclasses hosted by world-class artists, including Jerusalem Quartet, the Miami String Quartet, violist Stanley Konopka (Cleveland Orchestra), violist Martha Katz (Cleveland Quartet), and violist Lawrence Dutton (Emerson Quartet).
Tonight, the Tesura Quartet performs three works that are deeply personal to them. One being the Shostakovich’s String Quartet no. 3—being the piece that led them to win the UNLV Music competition. The Tesura Quartet wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Wei-Wei Le and Jackie Lee for their support and the opportunities they have provided. The ensemble is also grateful to Scott Lee, of the Miami String Quartet, for his mentorship and coaching. Finally, the quartet offers its gratitude to their families and Kansas City Community for their belief and continued support.
