Martin Schiller, Ph.D., a professor at UNLV's School of Life Sciences and executive director of the Nevada Institute of Personalized Medicine, will be giving a talk titled, "Genomic-driven Medicine".
Abstract
The completion of the human genome opened the door to a new era of medicine. Today, genomics helps doctors better match treatments to patients, guides cancer care, and supports the design of targeted medicines such as antibodies and other protein-based therapies. In this talk, I will introduce these advances in simple terms and then highlight a genomic approach being developed here in Las Vegas. My laboratory developed the GigaAssay technology at UNLV in the College of Science. Heligenics has revamped the GigaAssay now testing up to 500,000 genetic changes in a single gene, protein, or antibody in one experiment. This allows us to identify improved or new drug candidates much faster than traditional methods. This approach is helping scale the power of the genome to design better medicines.
