Title

The Professional Stranger and Strategist: An Anthropologist's Journey in User Experience Research

Speaker

Bo Wang, Lead UX Researcher, Teledoc Health

Abstract

How can anthropological training shape a career in user experience research and strategy? In this seminar, Bo Wang, Ph.D., shares a journey from academic fieldwork to leading UX research in virtual healthcare. In the talk he will explore the concept of the “professional stranger,” showing how ethnographic methods, critical analysis, and holistic thinking inform product design and strategy in tech. He will show how anthropology’s core skills—observation, pattern-finding, and storytelling—translate into impactful work beyond academia, and why anthropologists are uniquely positioned to address equity and complexity in digital health.
