Description

UNLV researchers and other contributors to the university’s research ecosystem are invited to participate in the NV-DICE Nevada Research Technology Strategy Workshops.

Hosted by UNLV Research Cyberinfrastructure Leadership and NSHE Research Technology System Computing Services, the three sessions will explore research data solutions, technology-informed proposal development, and collaboration on research technologies and workforce development.

Sessions

Session 1 – The Data Life Cycle Problem: Brainstorming Advanced Data Science Solutions with IT

9-11 a.m. | Beverly Rogers Literature and Law Building (RLL), Room 101

This two-hour session aims to discover more details around data life cycle challenges in research and brainstorm solution approaches for campus-level support for “big data”, “secure data”, “FAIR data”, and “AI-ready data”. The discussions will include:

  • Sharing Needs and Concerns: Creating space for faculty to share needs, concerns, strengths, and gaps around the data lifecycle.
  • Collaborative Tech, Cybersecurity, Data Lifecycle, and Publication: Brainstorm the technology infrastructure and cybersecurity needed across various campus units in order to collaborate effectively with partners on and off campus for data-driven research.
  • Campus & National Resources, Opportunities, and Champions: Learn about developing research technology resources, opportunities, and mentors/champions across campus and within the national science community.
Session 2 – Competitive Proposal Writing: Leveraging Campus Research Technologies & Strategy

1-2:45 p.m. | Carol C. Harter Classroom Building Complex (CHB), Room C230

This one-hour-and-45-minute session aims to help research faculty gain a competitive edge by incorporating campus strategy and research technology components into their proposals and research designs. Discussions will include:

  • Research and Proposal Writing Success: How to identify the technologies you need to be successful in proposed research, and how this plays into your pre-proposal planning and teambuilding.
  • Changes in the Federal Grants Landscape: Learn about new changes in how federal cyberinfrastructure funding is being directed.
  • Leverage Campus Cyberinfrastructure: Learn how to leverage your campus infrastructure strategy to benefit your proposals and science outcomes.
  • Collaborative Partnerships: Creative thinking on developing collaborative partners on your campus, across NSHE, and in the private sector to build stronger proposals and projects.
Session 3 – UNLV and CSN Meet-and-Greet: Collaborate on Research Technologies and Workforce Development

3-4 p.m. | Carol C. Harter Classroom Building Complex (CHB), Room C230

This one-hour Meet-and-Greet will allow you to meet colleagues to build collaborative projects between UNLV and CSN for research technology capability and workforce development. Attendees should be prepared to:

  • Discover Colleagues: Find potential partners and topic champions across UNLV and CSN.
  • Brainstorm Collaborative Pipelines and Student Success: Opportunities to build collaboration and pipelines between UNLV and CSN in the technology and science space.
  • Get to Know Each Other: You never know where this might lead!
