Description
Graduate school is not meant to be navigated alone, but understanding who is in your corner and what role each person plays can make a real difference in how successfully you move through your program. This workshop is designed to help graduate students clarify the people and structures that make up their academic support system, including faculty advisors, graduate coordinators, thesis and dissertation committees, and student support offices such as Retention, Progression, and Completion (RPC). Participants will learn how to engage with these relationships proactively, set clear expectations, and advocate for their own needs. By understanding how their support network functions and how to activate it, students will be better positioned to navigate milestones, resolve challenges, and thrive throughout their graduate experience.
By participating in this workshop, attendees will:
- Identify the key roles within their graduate support network, including advisors, committee members, and graduate coordinators, and understand how each functions.
- Develop strategies for building and maintaining productive, communicative relationships with their academic support team.
- Learn how to advocate for their own needs and navigate challenges with the support structures available to them.
