This workshop is designed to help graduate assistants feel prepared and confident as they take on teaching or lab leadership responsibilities for the first time. Participants will explore facilitation techniques, strategies for encouraging student participation, building rapport with students, creating an inclusive learning environment, and navigating difficult classroom situations. The session will also address managing imposter syndrome as new instructors and provide an opportunity to connect with fellow GAs, share questions, and begin building a community of practice around teaching.
By participating in this workshop, attendees will:
- Explore strategies for facilitating engaging discussions, labs, and student-centered learning experiences.
- Develop approaches for building rapport with students and fostering an inclusive classroom environment.
- Identify strategies for navigating teaching challenges and building confidence in their role as an instructor.
