Description
“On Time,” an exhibition exploring perspective of time as both a technical parameter and an abstraction, is on display in the Jessie & Brian Metcalf Gallery, second floor, Richard Tam Alumni Center through Oct. 29, 2026.
The featured artists are all members of UNLV’s Division of Integrated Marketing & Branding. As visual content producers, their work is usually intended to market UNLV and promote the work of faculty, staff, students, and alumni. For this exhibition, they stepped outside their daily jobs, to apply their creative talents to producing original and personal artistic works. The exhibition was intended as a professional development opportunity to challenge their technical skills and prompt new approaches to everyday assignments. It also offered a means to collaborate with each other and with clients in new ways, deepening their relationship to their daily work and to the campus community.

About the Artists
- Josh Hawkins joined UNLV in 2016 as a photographer and captures portraits, candids and marketing images. Born in Wisconsin, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia College in Chicago and previously worked as a photojournalist and freelance photographer. Working with a medium-format camera and household chemicals to modify the film, he has “embraced my professional-photographer, suburban-dad life.” This installation ponders the inevitability of one or both of those identities changing in the near future.
- Lola Lopez joined UNLV in 2023 as a social media specialist and writes and creates content for UNLV's main social media accounts. Born in Hollywood, California, she received a Bachelor of Arts in journalism and media studies from UNLV. Her installation offers a view into the time it takes to develop expertise in pole dancing, which requires engagement in rigorous athletic conditioning to build strength, flexibility, and endurance, as well as breathwork and coordination to execute fluid transitions as a performance artist. Her work challenges the viewer to think beyond pole dancing’s stigmatized origins and its current status as a competitive sport to recognize its evolution as an art form, found on the stages of Cirque du Soleil shows.
- Michael Porter joined UNLV in 2023 as a video production specialist and produces program marketing videos, digital ads, and social media shorts. Born and raised in Las Vegas, he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in film production from Chapman University. He started creating his own home movies in middle school and developed a lifelong passion for the art of editing and filmmaking. His installation uses personal home videos to chronicle the passing of time for one individual, himself. It is presented on a 27-inch CRT identical to the one in his childhood home.
- Benjamin Richards joined UNLV in 2017 and is the multimedia manager in the UNLV Division of Integrated Marketing and Branding. Born in Tucson, Arizona, he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in dance from Sacramento State University. Along with curating this exhibition, he contributed a mixed media series taking inspiration from the works of Robert Mapplethorpe. The photo prints on metallic paper, created in a makeshift garage studio, and framed pressings of desiccated plant material play with the concept of time in both technical and physical ways.
- Becca Schwartz joined UNLV in 2022 as a multimedia specialist and produces both still photography and videos. Born in Silver Spring, Maryland, she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Virginia Commonwealth University. For this installation, she ventured off campus to produce a series of portraits of Vegas locals. Her images play with the quality of light found both in the expansive desert sun and the neon signs of downtown Las Vegas that paint this city as the brightest place on earth.
