Dueling Narratives on the Israel-Palestine Conflict: A Discussion of Concepts and Misconceptions

When

Oct. 23, 2025, 1pm to 2:30pm

Office/Remote Location

Room 101

Description

The Israeli-Palestinian Conflict is deeply rooted in history and yet contemporary understanding of it is largely framed as conflictual and controversial because of the seemingly irreconcilable narratives of each party involved.

This presentation, which will be delivered by Charlotte Korchak of the Jerusalem Education Institute, will attempt to shed light on how these competing narratives emerged and have been sustained by demonstrating the key divergences in how each side views the history and the present. The purpose of the presentation, and the moderated discussion to follow, is to highlight the underlying ideological and political causes of the divide, which need to be bridged to achieve in the first instance, a more dispassionate understanding, and in the longer term, a basis for contributing to lasting peace between the Israelis and Palestinians.

Co-sponsored by the Department of History, Hillel Las Vegas, Academic Engagement Network, and Stand with Us.
