An open interior with a wooden floor. A banner reading, “Actions for the Earth: Art, Care & Ecology” hangs on the wall. A mottled brown strip of fabric hangs from the high ceiling like a giant hammock. Flat brown cushions lie on the floor under the arc of cloth. A wooden box in the foreground holds brown soil and green plants. Dried beans have been arranged into pictures on pedestals around the planter box. Two people are sitting on the floor near a detailed sculpture off to the side.

Description

Slow Art Day is a worldwide movement that takes place annually in museums, galleries, artist studios, and any other venue where art can be found. It supports people who want to intensify their experience of the visual world by paying attention to artworks slowly and deeply.

If that sounds like you, then join our 2026 Slow Art Day workshop on Saturday, April 11. Participants will be invited to engage in slow-looking exercises with artworks by contemporary artists from around the world—including Jackie Amézquita, Amy Elkins, Ana Mendieta, Sayan Chanda, Zarina Muhummad, Eric-Paul Riege, and more—before taking part in a guided group discussion about their experience.

Find out more about the Slow Art Day movement. Read an article about Slow Art Day 2025 at the Marjorie Barrick Museum.

Slow Art Day 2026 will take place in the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art from 1–3 p.m., Saturday, April 11. Participation is free and open to everyone. No reservation is required. Parking on the UNLV campus near the museum is free on weekends.

Ana Mendieta, Sayan Chanda, Zarina Muhummad, and Eric-Paul Riege appear in Actions for the Earth: Art, Care & Ecology, a traveling exhibition curated by Sharmila Wood and produced by Independent Curators International (ICI), New York.
