Bachelor of Science in Children’s Behavioral Health Psychology

The Bachelor of Science (BS) in Children's Behavioral Health Psychology program provides knowledge, skills, professional dispositions, and cultural competencies necessary to promote well-being, and prevent and intervene to support the behavioral health of preschool-Grade 12 children, with a particular focus on addictions and neurodevelopmental assessment of youth exposed to substances. Students will complete courses and practicum activities to develop knowledge and skills for this field. This curriculum is designed to meet the needs of both those students seeking an undergraduate degree and those intending to enter advanced training in graduate or professional schools.

Learning Outcomes

Demonstrate knowledge of evidence-based approaches to early identification of children’s behavioral health psychology concerns and exhibit competence in administering, scoring, and interpreting children’s behavioral health psychology screening methods.
Demonstrate knowledge of evidence-based children’s behavioral health psychology promotion supports and exhibit competence in delivering these supports to youth and families.
Demonstrate knowledge of evidence-based strategies that address youth behavioral health challenges and exhibit competence in delivering these interventions to youth and families.
Establish ability to evaluate and respond to behavioral health risk, identify youth and families who require referral, and engage in appropriate consultation and referral practices.
Demonstrate knowledge of behavioral health disparities and engage in culturally responsive and inclusive practices to deliver early identification, promotion, prevention, and intervention practices to youth and families, particularly those from historically underserved communities.
Display professionalism across service settings, including understanding of professional ethics and ability to work with other professionals.
Apply skills in supervised practicum experiences in youth-serving settings.
Be able to communicate effectively about concepts related to children’s behavioral health psychology, orally and in writing.
Be prepared for directly entering behavioral health and other workforce areas.
